Local before arrival
When this “candy store” for designers opened its doors in 1978, it immediately became a magnet and meeting point for the entire neighborhood. The architects, illustrators, commercial artists, and painters who lived within a few blocks all came here to get their work supplies, pencils, sketchbooks, brushes, and paint. Today, it’s still an institution for the city’s creatives—and for outsiders and amateurs looking to either push forward their own projects at their own expense or just find a few gift ideas.
