With Quartier 206, planned in 1997 as a retail, residential and office building, initiators Anno August and Anne Maria Jagdfeld sought to revive the golden age of Friedrichstraße. The interior of the complex, planned by architects Pei, Cobb, Freed & Partners and oriented to the Art Deco style, radiates Mediterranean grandeur with its atrium dominated by mosaic floors and curving stairs. A star-shaped skylight illuminates the shopping arcade with its exclusive boutiques like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Bottega Veneta.
