Another Grand Projet of the Mitterrand era was inaugurated in 1989 on the 200th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille: the opera house on the Place de la Bastille, designed by Carlos Ott and equipped with four stages. Because of its shape and functionality, this monumental building is equally impressive inside and out. The auditorium, clad in granite and pear wood, radiates sophisticated elegance and offers seating for 2,700. Its acoustics and stage technology are among the best and most modern in Europe.
