The roots of this collection of 20th century art go back to 1937. For the World’s Fair, Raymond Escholier, curator of the Petit Palais, acquired several works of classic modernism, including pieces by Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, and Robert Delaunay. In 1961, the collection moved to the Palais de Tokyo. In addition to classic modernism, it focuses on the École de Paris and contemporary art, and also presents retrospectives of the great masters.
