Local before arrival
The wonderful Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen comprises three locations: K20 Grabbeplatz, K21 Ständehaus, and Schmela House. The permanent exhibition at K20 starts with Expressionism, featuring artists including Henri Matisse, and takes viewers all the way up to Pop Art (think Andy Warhol) – recent exhibitions include the Anni Albers retrospective. K21 exhibits contemporary art by national and international artists, alongside retrospectives of important contemporary artists, while Schmela House plays host to art and culture events. A must-visit while in Düsseldorf.
