KRAMERAMTSSTUBEN
PHOTOS MAPS

Situated on a historic street not far from Michel (St. Michael’s Church), these Grocer’s Institute apartments are unique examples of Hamburg’s 17th-century courtyard architecture. The inner courtyard is claustrophobically narrow, surrounded by ten timber-frame buildings that accommodate quaint little shops, a gallery and a time-honored restaurant. Back in the day, butchers’ widows lived here, and one of the apartments has been preserved to show what life was like at the time.
