The EUR district (Esposizione Universale di Roma) was originally planned as the site of the 1942 World’s Fair which, because of the war, never took place. Today EUR is a residential, business and arts district which has plans to become the “downtown” of Rome. Until now, its architecture was dominated by the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana with its 216 arches and the Palazzo dei Congressi. This could soon change with buildings designed by noted architects such as Massimiliano Fuksas and Renzo Piano.
