The largest cemetery in Paris is the final resting place of choice for numerous celebrities including Jim Morrison, Simone Signoret, and Frédéric Chopin. It is a veritable museum, where renowned sculptors and architects have, over the past centuries, erected chapels, sculptures, mausoleums, and a Neo-Byzantine-style crematoria. A visit to Père Lachaise seems therefore more like a walk through an abandoned, tree-lined sanctuary on the famous Parisian hillside.
