RUBIN MUSEUM
PHOTOS MAPS

While New York’s foremost museum of Indian, Buddhist, and Tibetan art presents mainly traditional religious painting and sculpture in its permanent collection, the Rubin also occasionally hosts contemporary art exhibitions. Founder Donald Rubin, who lost much of his family in the Holocaust, has amassed a collection of Buddhist art whose themes and imagery are often nightmarish. These works compel viewers to confront their own demons and delve into the unknown.
