The museum, located in a stately townhouse on the Upper West Side off the Hudson River, holds 200 paintings and curiosities from the estate of the late Russian-born, turn-of-the-century artist, known for his esoteric leanings and his interest in Buddhism. He traveled to then-exotic destinations like the Himalayas and Mongolia, where he gathered inspiration for his works. His paintings “explore the mythic origins, the natural beauty, and the spiritual strivings of humanity and of the world.” The museum also provides a venue for classical concerts.
