Since Amsterdam has few green oases, a zoological garden offers a welcome respite. Founded in 1838 as Natura Artis Magistra, the Royal Zoo was renovated and expanded in recent years. Families with children love it because of its green spaces which offer an inviting spot to relax and enjoy a picnic after paying a visit to the animal enclosures.
